Lake Supreme describes his music as "spontaneous and full of emotion". A friend of his that has listened to his beats says that they sound "almost combustive," and "weird in a good way and kind of trippy but they have a nice groove ". Lake's process of creating a new beat consists of simply "doing it".
"Every time is different," Lake says whilst rubbing the head of an orange stripped American shorthaired cat named Leo that is curled up on his lap. "I keep trying different melodies and rhythms out until I find ones I like and then I build on top of that"."My inspiration is however that I feel at that exact moment and, like, if I were to lose that music I would never be able to recreate it the same way," he says, rubbing his plain grey beanie against his forehead. Knee bounces anticipatedly under his wooden desk, ontop which you could find his computer, mini keyboard, and big, block-like speakers. He sits slouched over his computer staring intensely at his computer screen headphones on, brows furrowed, and fingers dancing across the mini keyboard. Below is a video demo of the music software Lake Supreme uses.
"In March last year [2017] I just got really bored and I was a music major and, uh, just sat down at my computer on garage band and started making beats," Lake proclaims, shrugging. Music has always been an outlet for him but making beats was something he'd never done before. His passion and drive for his craft are very apparent to anyone that has ever experienced his music or him talking about it. His uncle gifted him a music software program to which he upgraded from basic garage band and it snowballed from there.
"A day to a week depending on my work schedule and, like, school. But there are some that I've started in June or July that I haven't finished yet," he says, when referring to how long it takes to write a song. "The hardest song for me to finish so far is probably off the new EP that I finished today. The song is called 'Shadow'. It was so difficult for me to finished because I just wasn't satisfied up until the very end. It went through so many changes and I just sat there and worked on it constantly unless I had to sleep or go to class. It took me, like, two whole days to finish it. But that was why it was also the most satisfying to finish because once I was finally satisfied with it it was just like.... ahhh!"
Although he admits that his style may not be for everyone, it's hard to deny that he is good at what he does. With a confident but humble aura and ever-willingness to grow and learn, Lake Supreme has the potential to make his dreams come true. He says, "I want to inspire people. I don't want to be super famous or anything, I just want people to know me and respect me as a musician and, you know, it would be really cool to work with some higher name artists like Tennyson, Tipper, Flying Lotus, maybe some funk bands, possibly even something heavier."
